Money Saving Monday-Science Pass

On the first day, of this very snowy winter, finding a place to entertain the kids is challenging. Luckily, hubby wanted to bring the kids to the Museum of Science, which is great, but oh so expensive. But, then I remembered that we purchased a See Science Center pass last year, and it's part of the reciprocal membership, so instead of paying, $78 for a daily admission rate. I paid $80 for a yearly pass.

It's a great program, which allows  Reciprocal to over 270 museums. Check it out! It's a national program, so it just might be a great and cheaper alternative.

Continuing the Spring Cleaning in the Kitchen, The Kitchen Sink

While, I was cooking my granola, I looked around and saw a dingy sink. I thought, I could do better.
I ran the sink, putting a little bleach in it, I have a white porcelain sink, then rubbed it down, it looked ok.
I then went under my sink, and found this bottle called "Perfect Sink." I remember buying it at Lowe's it works like a charm, look at the pictures before and after.

Shined the Stainless Steel with something my husband picked up for cleaning the grill.

Spring Cleaning Starting in the Kitchen

As the snow melts, and it becomes to warm up, I am starting my annual spring cleaning. I decided to start in the kitchen this time, and give myself, 2 weeks, so I can truly do top to bottom.

Today, while I was making lunch for Kevin and Jason, I did 2 projects, cleaned out one cabinet, which is my goal, to do one a day, and cleaned the kitchen sink.

Cleaning out the cabinets, includes a few steps:

    1. Empty it, it's easier to see what you have when it's all spread out on the counters.
    2. Washing the cabinet
    3. Check products for expiration dates
    4. Line up all like products, together.
    5. Refill
    6. You can clean the outside, with either wood polish or dish soap with water.

    Before

    The Cabinet of the Day

After, have to get the soups eaten before summer.

    Weekly Meal Schedule

One of the hardest parts about having a stockpile is using it.

Now, that I have gotten tons and tons of great deals on food, it's important, to remember that using the food, is the only way to reduce the ghastly food budget. And with 2 growing boys in the house, knowing we are going to eat is important.

So, I made this weekly schedule out.

    Sunday: Soup and Sandwiches
    Monday: Chicken Night
    Tuesday: Breakfast Night
    Wednesday: Pasta Night
    Thursday: Stir Fry
    Friday: Pizza Night
    Saturday: Freezer Day

Free Remote for Hubby! Boy was he happy!

One day during residency, we received a package in the mail. I opened it up, to me it wasn't that exciting.  So, I left it in it's packaging, completely unaware at the awe it was going to receive by Kevin.

When Kevin came home, after being at work for over 20 hours, residency is hard, he ran to the box. In those days, getting something in the mail, was either a present from my mom or his. But, as he ripped the package hollering do you know what this is, it's awesome. It's the New Logictech Remote. I have been so wanting one of these. Then he suddenly stopped and said, with a sadden look upon his face, did you pay for this???

I said, no. I got it free, he was shakily asking how. I asked

    BzzAgent.

Growing up in Boston. I think all of my college friends were BzzAgents. It is a word of mouth program, for advertising. It works rather basically, you sign up, you get some surveys to fill out and then if you get picked to review a product, they send it to you. In the past, before the children came, I reviewed Comcast Direct TV, Books, Videos, and my hubby's favorite the remote control (which retails for $399) if you were wondering about the panic.

Sign up, it will be fun. And hopefully, you will get a great free product to try out.

    Pictures of Hangtag and Bottle

My New Goal-One Free Item A Day

My new goal for my blog is to post one free item a day.

Today's is something, I saw at Walgreen's today. If you know me, you know I have curly hair, so I am always on the lookout for conditioner.

While, browsing the aisle today, I noticed this hangtag on the bottle, try for free. I thought why not? I don't have anything to lose.

The rebate form is one of the easiest, I have ever filled out, name, address, city and state, date of purchase.

Since, there is no limit per one on this, I might try it again.

    Keeping Track of Home Finances

I went to college for Accounting, soon after graduation, I was blessed enough to be hired by a local CPA firm. Where, I spent years learning, how to budget and compile spreadsheets. I truly love using spreadsheets, and I find that now, that I am a "home manager," can I tell you how much I do not like the term housewife.

Today we are going to talk about creating a monthly balance sheet, only for assets. We will talk later about debts.

I find it useful to make monthly balance sheets, which shows how much we actually changed in our financial position, i.e., how much we saved or spent.

To do this is rather simple, gather all of your bank statements, or log on to find stock prices, at the end of a month. today, I am using January 31, 2011.

Today we received a package in the mail, since the boys love opening packages, I gave it to them after dinner to open. First, they shook it, as half of the fun is guessing what it could be...shaked a lego set, Ethan guessed, Jason guessed candy. They ripped it open, it was a box of New Chex Honey Cereal. They were so excited, they decided, it would make a great dessert.

Well, this is my second package of samples and coupon from Pssst. Pssst is a program by General Mills, that gives samples and coupons for signing up to try new products, and give feedback.
